Your Team Responsibilities

As an MSCI Analytics Consultant, your team's responsibilities typically center on delivering expert guidance, technical support, and strategic value to clients who use MSCI’s analytics solutions. Here's a breakdown of the key responsibilities:

 

Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong, trust-based relationships.

  • Understand each client's investment process, objectives, and challenges to tailor analytics support accordingly.

  • Proactively engage with clients to ensure they are deriving maximum value from MSCI tools and services.


Subject Matter Expertise

  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) on MSCI’s suite of products, particularly Barra, Aegis, and other Risk, Performance Attribution, and Portfolio Construction tools.

  • Provide in-depth explanations of methodologies and results, and bridge the gap between technical capabilities and client use cases.

  • Translate complex analytics into actionable insights for portfolio managers, risk teams, and performance analysts.


Product Enablement & Onboarding

  • Support new client onboarding, ensuring a smooth transition and effective implementation of MSCI solutions.

  • Configure and customize MSCI tools to meet specific client workflows and reporting needs.

  • Deliver product training and workshops to enhance client proficiency with the platforms.


Analytical Support & Problem Solving

  • Assist clients in running risk models, conducting performance attribution, and optimizing portfolios.

  • Troubleshoot issues, perform diagnostics, and collaborate with internal teams (Product, Engineering, Sales) to resolve technical challenges.

  • Help clients interpret results, identify data anomalies, and recommend adjustments to workflows as needed.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with MSCI Sales, Research, Product Management, and Client Service teams to deliver a unified client experience.

  • Provide client feedback to product teams to support roadmap development and feature enhancement.


Value Demonstration

  • Continuously demonstrate the value of MSCI Analytics by helping clients align the tools with regulatory requirements, performance goals, and investment strategies.

  • Identify upsell opportunities through thoughtful engagement and understanding of client needs.

Your Key Ressponsibilities

Client Engagement & Relationship Management

  • Act as a trusted advisor and main point of contact for assigned clients in the asset management, hedge fund, or pension space.

  • Understand each client's investment process, portfolio structure, and risk framework.

  • Build long-term relationships to ensure client satisfaction and retention.


Product Expertise & Consultation

  • Provide deep expertise on MSCI products, especially Barra risk models, Aegis platform, and performance attribution tools.

  • Help clients interpret analytical outputs and apply them to real-world portfolio decisions.

  • Offer guidance on model selection, data interpretation, and result validation.


Onboarding & Training

  • Lead the onboarding process for new clients, ensuring smooth setup and integration with their systems and workflows.

  • Deliver customized training sessions to improve user adoption and proficiency across client teams.

  • Develop client-specific materials and use cases to support platform understanding.


Analytics & Reporting Support

  • Assist with portfolio diagnostics, custom reporting, and performance attribution.

  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., Engineering, Product, Data Operations) to troubleshoot and resolve client issues.

  • Identify discrepancies in data or results and help clients understand root causes and corrective actions.


Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Sales, Account Management, Research, and Product Management to align client needs with MSCI’s evolving product roadmap.

  • Participate in product feedback loops, contributing client insights to future feature development.


Strategic Value Delivery

  • Help clients align MSCI’s analytics tools with regulatory compliance, investment mandates, and ESG goals.

  • Provide forward-looking insights on market trends, new methodologies, or product enhancements that could benefit the client’s workflow.

To excel as an MSCI Analytics Consultant, especially in a client-facing role within the asset management space, a combination of technical expertise, industry knowledge, and strong interpersonal skills is essential. Below is a detailed breakdown of the skills and experience that contribute to success in this role:


Technical & Analytical Skills

Risk & Performance Analytics

  • Strong understanding of multi-factor risk models (e.g., MSCI Barra).

  • Knowledge of performance attribution, portfolio optimization, and scenario analysis.

Product Proficiency

  • Hands-on experience with MSCI tools such as:

    • BarraOne

    • Aegis

    • RiskMetrics

    • ESG Manager (if applicable)

  • Familiarity with portfolio management systems (e.g., Aladdin, Charles River, Bloomberg PORT) is a plus.

Quantitative Acumen

  • Solid background in statistics, financial mathematics, or econometrics.

  • Comfort working with large datasets and interpreting model outputs.

Technical Tools

  • Excel (advanced), Python, R, or SQL for custom analysis or data manipulation.

  • Understanding of APIs and integration processes is increasingly valuable.


Industry & Domain Expertise

Investment Process Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of how asset managers, hedge funds, and institutional investors construct and manage portfolios.

  • Awareness of regulatory frameworks (e.g., UCITS, Solvency II, ESG mandates).

ESG & Private Asset Analytics (Optional but Growing in Demand)

  • Familiarity with ESG scoring and integration.

  • Understanding how private markets are modeled and evaluated in risk frameworks.


Client-Facing & Interpersonal Skills

Client Engagement

  • Ability to build strong, consultative relationships with portfolio managers, risk teams, and analysts.

  • Comfortable presenting complex analytics in a clear, actionable way.

Communication

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially when explaining technical material to non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to tailor your communication style depending on stakeholder roles (e.g., CIO vs. Risk Analyst).

Problem Solving

  • Proactive mindset when identifying and resolving client issues.

  • Ability to connect technical tools with client-specific challenges and investment goals.


Professional Experience

Typical Background

  • Degrees in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or Quantitative disciplines.

  • 3–7+ years of experience in:

    • Buy-side or sell-side analytics

    • Risk or performance teams

    • Financial technology consulting

    • Quantitative research or client support

Certifications (Nice to Have)

  • CFA, FRM, CAIA, or progress toward these credentials is often viewed positively.
