Your Team Responsibilities

MSCI is seeking a Data Quality Test Engineer with a background in Finance or Economics/Business to join the Mapping team in Norman, Oklahoma.  This team develops, implements, and validates data mapping processes that are used for industry-adopted financial instruments and reporting. We strive to ensure the 'highest level of quality' and the 'fastest time to market' in the industry for our financial products.

This exciting role combines finance and technology to provide market-leading analytics to our clients.  As a key member of the Mapping team, you will work closely with Developers and Researchers to test the validity of code used to enhance client positions for sophisticated and accurate statistical analysis. The Mapping team addresses complex issues, which often require in-depth analysis to determine the root cause of problems and creative thinking to provide solutions.

To succeed in this role you must be detail-oriented and capable of multi-tasking assignments in a timely, independent manner. You should be able to read a technical specification, craft use cases to test the feature, thoroughly document the approach in a test plan, and successfully execute the drafted plan.  Additionally, you will work with internal client relationship specialists to diagnose and resolve client issues as they arise.

Your Key Ressponsibilities

  • Feature Testing – Utilize research-approved specifications for the enrichment of 100+ varieties of complex financial instruments and derivatives to create test cases for new features and update regression tests for on-going analysis
  • Client Issue Analysis – Understand client complaints and requests to explain current behavior, submit new feature requests, and remedy defects found in the code; advise proper configuration settings to allow clients to achieve desired analytical results
  • Technical Improvements – As needed, modify a shared code base to enhance the Mapping product offerings

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

  • Five years of relevant work experience centered around quality assurance / quality control testing and process workflows
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics or business; MBA or Master's degree in Finance or Economics preferred
  • Knowledge of financial markets, including complex financial derivative instruments and how they work in a real world environment
  • Strong sense of ownership in crafting quality test cases that cover scenarios applicable to technical specifications as well as to real world financial cases
  • Ability to solve complex problems by thinking “outside the box”
  • Impeccable attention to detail when comparing text and XML files in test results
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Microsoft Excel, SQL Database query software
  • Familiarity with software development is a plus.  Though there may be some software development opportunities, this is primarily a testing role, not a development role.
    • Experience solving basic software development problems, either at the university or professional level.
    • Experience with Agile software development
    • Technical skills and programming languages (such as python and java)
